air is one of the oldest known pieces of furniture and was first brought into the US during the 1950's.  It has been a popular chair found at most import stores across the USA.

It is made from rattan and not bamboo as many believe.  Rattan is a type of palm which grows throughout South East Asia.  The plant grows much like a vine up the sides of trees and other palms.  It is covered with spines which have to be removed before use.  The outer skin of rattan is used for wrapping the joints of the chair and the heart of the palm wood is used for the framework.

What is a mamasan chair?

The mamasan chair refers to the double size chair that is also refered to as the papasan love seat. It is typically an oval shape chair.

How do you refinish an old frame?

You must clean off the old frame of any loose materials, dirt and oils.  A light sanding may also be needed.  I have personally taken a weather beaten rocker and hosed it off on a very hot sunny day and left it to dry out in the sun.
